When contemplating shopping in Seoul, the usual places that come to mind are Dongdaemun, Myeongdong, and Gangnam. Rarely does one hear about the hidden gem situated beneath the Gangnam Express Bus Terminal and Shinsegae Department store, known as the 'Gangnam Underground Shopping Center.'

This extensive labyrinth comprises approximately 1000 stores and lies beneath three major subway lines. You will be in awe at the grandeur of this arcade.

Regardless of whether you plan on shopping or not, it will prove difficult to resist the irresistible prices available here every day. Pop-up stores offer all kinds of goods for only W10,000 ($8), while other establishments sell items as cheap as W5,000! Rest assured, there is always a delightful bargain to be found, and do keep in mind that bargaining is not entirely off the table.

Personally, I had no intentions of making any purchases, but as I made my way home on a seemingly calm Monday afternoon, both of my arms were weighed down by shopping bags! Moreover, I also managed to savor some delectable Sushi for an unbelievably low price of W2,000 per dish.

If the fear of hunger plagues your mind, fret not, for the center offers both Japanese and Korean cuisine. Alternatively, you can venture to the Food Court located in the Shinsegae Department Store, which boasts a wide selection of local and gourmet dishes from around the world.

With a vast selection spanning over a kilometer, ranging from picnic baskets to lingerie, and from skincare products to accessories, this center leaves nothing to be desired.

In all my wanderings, I have yet to encounter a single locale that showcases such an extensive range and variety of choices. So, spend a day exploring, or set aside a few hours before your departure from Seoul. Alternatively, simply pay a visit to the Gangnam Underground Shopping Centre.

• Please note that some stores may not accept credit cards, so it is advisable to have cash readily available.

• Exit 8 is considered the most convenient entrance to access the shopping center.
